Situated north of Leadville at 11,150 feet in the East Tennessee Creek drainage, Emmelyn Hut has sweeping views of the Sawatch Range .Opened to the public in 2022, it's also the latest addition to the 10th Mountain Hut System.
Built and owned by Leadville resident Cannon Shockley, the 10-person hut is memorialized to Shockley’s paternal grandmother, Emmelyn, who was a guiding force in Shockley’s life. Emmelyn Hut links Sangree’s Hut and Ski Cooper. This two-level hut faces southwest, and it features solar lighting, indoor composting toilets, and a roof-catchment system providing cleaniong water via a hand pump in kitchen.
Please contribute a trip report to share your experience for those who visit after you! This not only helps fellow riders, but it also helps hutkeepers ensure that the huts remain in good operating condition.
